Robert Smith Obituary
- SAVANNAH - Robert S. Smith of Savannah, Georgia passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015.
Bob was born in 1934 and spent the majority of his life in Morris County, New Jersey. While attending Lafayette College, he held many class leadership positions and was president of his fraternity (Sigma Alpha Epsilon). He graduated from Lafayette in 1957 with a degree in economics.
After graduation, Bob had a very successful 35 year career with Public Service Enterprise Group,(PSE&G). He retired in 1995 as Vice President and Corporate Secretary. Bob was elected to the Morris Plains Borough Council in 1964 and acted as president of the council in 1966. He was also involved with many charitable organizations having served on the Board of Directors of Prevent Blindness New Jersey and Family Service America, Inc. Bob was a member of Mendham Golf & Tennis Club and was president for two years.
The joy of his life was his wife of 49 years, Betty, and his daughter, Robin. He will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, and for his kindness, warmth, dedication and being a true gentleman.
A resident of The Landings for the past 15 years, he enjoyed many hours playing golf with The Wednesday Warriors.
He was an active member of The Skidaway Island United Methodist Church and served as a trustee.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Betty, and his daughter, Robin, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
The family would like to thank Hospice Savannah and Home Care Nurse Kathy Lewis for their compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held on September 5, 2015 at 11:00 AM at The Skidaway Island United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, 54 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, GA 31411 or Hospice Savannah, PO Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.

high school classmate I remember his sense of
humor,friendly smile for everyone and always

To Betty and Robin,
I recall vivadly meeting Bob in business years ago. We had many things in common beginning with having exact names and both our mothers had maiden names of Matthews.
Later I learned I know several classmates from Lafayette. One being George Tiger. We have Mendham golf course several times and alway thought of Bob. Too bad we didn't play together.
I will send a donation to the church.
The obituary said it all. He was a fine gentleman. I send my sympathy to you both.
