James "Jim" Stroede passed away peacefully on Friday, August 4th, at his home surrounded by his children after a battle with cancer.
Jim was born April 13, 1965, in Madison, WI, to Robert Edwin and Mary "Eileen" (Murray) Stroede. He graduated from Oregon High School in 1983 and began a career as a journeyman electrician in Madison, WI. In 1994, Jim fell in love with the girl next door, Marguerite Sommers, and they married in 1995. Among many things, they shared the love of travel, hiking, breakfast at restaurants, and drinking good coffee.
The couple moved up to northwest Wisconsin in 2001 and Jim became a self-employed electrician and fishing guide. Despite working more than full time, Jim was an incredibly present and patient parent. He encouraged all of his children to pursue their passions. Jim's own passion was fishing. He shared his passion with people on the water as a guide and off the water as a contributing writer to Musky Hunter Magazine and presenting at the Mad Musky School in Madison.
Jim found his calling in life serving people by becoming a Deacon in the Catholic Church and a Hospice Chaplain since 2013. Through the church he helped start free community dinners, was active with Faith in Action, and led many community prayer services and visits.
Jim will be remembered as a loving father. As a true friend. As one who could make anyone laugh. A gentle listener on dark days. As a naturalist at heart. He will be missed always.
Jim was preceded in death by his infant brother, Ronald, parents, and his loving wife, Marguerite. He is survived by his siblings, David Stroede, Jean (Don) Ripp, and Diane Stroede; many nieces and nephews; and his children, Lucia, Willow, Bridget, Catriona, Forrest, Violet, and Linnea.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis de Sales in Spooner, Saturday, August 12th, at 2:30 PM with a visitation one hour prior
