Jim Hardy

January 18, 1941 - August 5, 2025

James "Jim" Widmar Hardy (1941-2025), 84, of Glen Ellyn, IL, passed away on August 5, 2025. A devoted husband to Jean Berg Hardy for over 62 years, he was the proud father of 4, grandfather to 12, and great-grandfather to 3. Born in Evanston, IL, Jim was a gifted athlete, excelling in baseball at DePauw University, where he earned Hall of Fame honors, and briefly played professionally for the New York Mets organization. After a long career with Burroughs/Unisys, he found his true calling as a substitute teacher in Illinois and Wisconsin.

A beloved coach, mentor, and community volunteer, Jim was deeply involved in Glen Ellyn's youth baseball, the Jaycees, and later in Hayward, WI's civic life. He had a passion for golf and fishing, often with his children and grandchildren. Known for his humor, warmth, and integrity, Jim touched countless lives with his calm leadership and genuine kindness.

A Celebration of Life will be held August 30 at Village Links of Glen Ellyn, Illinois and September 13 at Hayward Golf Course in Hayward, WI.

Memorials may be made to the Ed Posh Scholarship Fund or DePauw University Baseball. A full obituary may be found at https://www.leonardmemorialhome.com/obituary/JamesJim-Hardy.
