Sarah Wick Obituary

Sarah Wick

December 9, 1956 - August 13, 2025

We lost Sarah's beautiful smile and generous heart when she left us on the morning of August 13, 2025. A brilliant sunrise glittered on the surface of Lac Courte Oreilles with its rays beaming on her. Sarah passed peacefully with her husband, Bruce Wick, and sisters encircling her.

Sarah was born on December 9, 1956, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to Art and Leatrice Moe. In 1962, the family moved their family of six (plus Jasper, the black lab) from Holmen to their home on Whitefish Lake in Moe's Bay.

Sarah met Bruce on the waters of Lac Courte Oreilles in 1974. The sun was shining then too, and their connection was immediate and enduring. They married in 1978 at Thor's, her parents' landmark supper club, located on the same lake where their story began. As Bruce remembers, "We met on the lake, and we never left."

For several years, they worked for Sarah's parents at Thor's. Then in 1983, Sarah, Bruce, and Bruce's brother, Paul Wick, formed a "trio-ship" to purchase Angler's Haven Resort on Courte Oreilles. Together, they reimagined, updated, and brought the old resort property into prime condition, attracting families from all over the upper Midwest. Hundreds of young employees learned customer service skills from Sarah. For more than three decades, they created a year-round haven of true hospitality for guests arriving by car, SUV, boat, float plane, 4-wheeler, and snowmobile. In 2014, the Wicks sold Angler's Haven and retired.

Snowmobiling was a part of Moe family culture from the '60s. With experience and knowledge of the regional economic impact of the sport, Sarah organized and unified The Sawyer County Alliance Snowmobile Trail Map. Earlier in her life, Sarah worked in the Great Workroom of the Administration Building of SC Johnson Headquarters in Racine, an historic building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

A graduate of Hayward High School's Class of 1975, Sarah was known for her warm heart and love of animals her entire life. A passion for nature and furry 4-legged friends, her very affectionate family members were the black labs and cats that she and Bruce raised over the years. There was no better dog or cat mom than Sarah.

Sarah is survived by her devoted husband Bruce Wick; siblings David Moe (Kathy), Dayna Deutsch (Don), and Kristin Skorczewski (Jim); nieces Danielle Danford (Dustin) and Karielle Moe; grand-niece Ellavin Danford; many aunts, uncles, cousins, wonderful friends, and former customers; and last but not least… their beloved labs Sam and Mollie and kitties Bandit, Boots, Gracie, and Jack the Cat. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Leatrice Moe.

A private memorial will be held on a future date. Sarah's family hopes the memory of her eternal smile and kind spirit brings comfort to all who knew and loved her.
