Sylvia Hitchcock Obituary

SYLVIA M. HITCHCOCK From San Bernardino, Ca. Today and always we mourn the loss of our wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. This treasured woman was born to Edgar and Mary von Heeringen on August 27, 1918, in El Paso, Texas. Sylvia passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2007, from complications of lupus, at Kaiser Medical Center in Fontana, California. She was 88. There are no words to express how greatly she will be missed by all that loved her. Sylvia was a very intelligent, beautiful and classy lady. We will miss her funny stories and intellectual conversations. She was never out of fashion; she would tell us way in advance what was going to be in style and what colors were in. Sylvia's strength and zest for life, even in the face of adver sity, helped us realize our own strengths. Her infinite wisdom gathered from all of her life experiences, gave her the answers to everything, no matter what it was about! She was our mentor, adviser and friend. Through the years Sylvia had many hobbies but she always had a great love for cooking and family gatherings. Sylvia was very active for many years in her local VFW Chapter and American legion post #497. These few words can hardly describe the extraordinary woman and her life! She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hitchcock. She is survived by her children, Carole M. L ong (Buddy) of Mentone, Ca; Susan L. Schmitz (James) of Redlands, Ca.; David E. Crocket of San Bernardino, Ca.; and Kathleen M. Rogers (Buddy) of Yucaipa, Ca. She is also survived by her sister, Laurel Brun of June Lake, Ca; 11 Grandchildren; 25 Great Grandchildren; 3 Great-Great Grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2007, at 10:00 A.M. at Monte cito Memorial Park and Mortuary at 24145 Barton Rd., Loma Linda, Ca. (909) 825-3024.

I am sad to hear of Sylvia's passing. I will always remember her fondly. Although we were not recently close to the family as many others, it is another one of our relatives who remind us of good times years ago. Those times will not be forgotten.

To the family of Sylvia. I am Ted and Katherine Lane's niece Nancy (Vredenburg) Meyer. I remember Sylvia as I was growing up being such a delightful, full of fun lady. She and my mother Dorothy Vredenburg were also friend's. I remember my cousin Susie, myself, David and Kathleen playing together. I am so sorry to hear about your mother's passing.

I am truely saddened to hear of Sylvia's passing. She was a long-time friend of my mother Katherine Lane and our family. I always loved it when she would visit with mom. I would just sit and listen to her talk about everything. To Carole, David and Kathleen, please except my sincere sympathies. This is truely a deep loss for everyone who knew her.
