Dr. Barbara Facinelli Hildreth

Barbara Hildreth Obituary

Dr. Barbara Facinelli Hildreth, MD, of Encinitas, Calif., passed peacefully at Palomar Hospital, Escondido, Calif., Nov. 16, accompanied by family following a brief battle with atrial fibrillation and lung disease.

Born in Ashland, Sept. 7, 1938, Barbara was a daughter of Steven and Alice Facinelli.

In 1956, Barbara graduated from Pottsville High School, where she met her future husband, Bill Hildreth. Their marriage would endure for 58 years. Bill and Barbara graduated together from Penn State University in 1960. Following the births of their two sons, Barbara pursued a career in medicine. She graduated from Temple University School of Medicine in 1968 and completed her residency at UCLA in 1973. The same year, Barbara started her career as a pediatric cardiologist with Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in Los Angeles. Her career at Kaiser spanned 35 years. She only retired in 2008 so that she could move from Los Angeles to Encinitas to be closer to her two granddaughters.

Barbara was a great mother and had many colleagues and friends in the medical field. She was a favorite doctor among her many patients at Kaiser Permanente. In addition to her career and family, Barbara also enjoyed traveling. When their children were young, Barbara and Bill vacationed all over the United States. In later years, Bill and Barbara traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East. She had a keen interest in both archaeology and Italian cuisine.

She was preceded in death by a son, David Hildreth.

Barbara is survived by her husband; a son, Bill II; a daughter-in-law, Zoia; a brother, Dave Facinelli; two granddaughters, Sophia and Miya, as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Cremation Services, Vista, Calif., has charge of arrangements. Services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or American Lung Association. Condolences may be sent to Barbara Hildreth MD memorial page at https://remembr.com/barbara.hildreth.

Doctor Hildreth helped my mom with her birth of me on Feb 12, 1973. She also helped me with my lifetime issues with asthma and other childhood issues I had. Her name has always been mentioned as if she was part of my family as well . I am sad that I heard of her passing so late. Tomorrow I turn 49 and I wanted to let her know so many of us were greeted into this world with her by their side. Thank you for being such a good childhood doctor for many of us in the valley- Panorama City.

Dr. Hildreth was a wonderful person and Dr. to work with. I enjoyed being her nurse in pediatric cardiology. Everyone that knew her loved her. Dr, nurses, patients. Just everyone. She was so down to earth and was a very generous person. I'll never forget you Dr. Hildreth.

Bill,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of Barbara. In addition to knowing Barbara from high school, I also knew her from Girl Scouts where your mother was our troop leader. Barbara was an active, enthusiastic participant in all the activities. She certainly had an impressive medical career. My blessings to you and your family.

Barbara Facinelli Hildreth was a beloved classmate from Pottsville High School 1956. Class president for the first semester, Barb went on to Penn State, where she and her high school sweetheart, Bill Hildreth, got engaged and married. After they moved to California, Barbara pursued a successful career as a medical doctor. Although I never saw Barbara or Bill in later years, they were a legend to their former classmates.
