Bertram Daniel "Bert" Leiby, 90, of Walker Township, died Jan. 19, 2023, at home.
He was the husband of June Leiby, to whom he had been married for 63 years at the time of her death in 2016.
Born in Coaldale, on May 13, 1932, Bert was a son of the late Daniel and Erma (Nester) Leiby.
A 1950 graduate of Tamaqua High School, he was primarily a dairy farmer who also raised vegetables and turkeys over the years.
Bert was a member of Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley, where he served as an elder. He served as a Walker Township supervisor for 25 years and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, where he had the opportunity to work with former President Jimmy Carter.
Bert was a member of a number of varied organizations, having belonged to the Sons of the American Revolution, Masonic Lodge No. 238, Gideons - Central Camp, the Schuylkill County Fair Association, the Schuylkill County Agricultural Museum, the Farm Credit Board, Tamaqua Royal Arch Chapter No. 177, the Rajah Shriners, the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, the White Shrine and the Antique Engine, Tractor and Toy Club Inc.
He is survived by sons, Bruce Leiby and his wife, Carol, of Tamaqua, Scott Leiby and his wife, Linda, of Tamaqua, Dean Leiby and his wife, Kathy, of Manheim, and John Leiby and his wife, Helen, of New Ringgold; daughter, Kay Ann Creyer, of Blandon; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elinor Wagner of Harrisburg, and Joan Smith, of Lewistown Valley; and several nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Fisher, and son-in-law, Mark Creyer.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, in Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley, which will be followed by an ice cream social in the church social hall. Memorial donations in Bertram's name may be made to Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley, 491 Valley Road, Tamaqua, PA 18252. Online condolences may be made at www.zgfuneralhome.com.
