Charles Lorenz Obituary

Charles J. Lorenz, 82, of Pottsville, passed away Saturday evening at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.

Born April 24, 1934, he was a son of the late Joseph and Veronica Walcott Lorenz.

He was a 1952 graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School and a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Pottsville.

Charles proudly served his country in the Army National Guard and also the Army, where he was stationed in Verdun, France.

He was a shipping supervisor at Lehigh Valley Dairy for 36 years, retiring in 1995.

Charles was very involved in the community and a member of Pottsville AMVETS Post 180, Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, American Legion Post 38, Schuylkill Haven, the former Pottsville Club, and was a former board member of St. Joseph Center for Special Learning.

He was an avid golfer, a devoted Notre Dame fan and enjoyed playing baseball as a young man.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph and John Lorenz; sisters, Mary Albertson, Anna Shamis, Margaret Ollivierre; a niece, Eleanor Shamis Sabados.

Charles is survived by his wife, Frances C. Bartholomew Lorenz, to whom he was married for 50 years Oct. 11, 2014; nephews, John Lorenz, husband of Patricia, and Robert Lorenz, husband of Alexis; a great-nephew, Stephen Sabados.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Church, 913 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, with the Rev. David J. Loeper officiating. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, and Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the procession will depart for church. Interment with military honors will follow in St. John No. 2 Cemetery, Pottsville. Lord-Bixler Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
