Leon Milchunas Obituary


October 25, 2009

Leon G. Milchunas, 92, of Sinking Spring, died Oct. 25 at his residence.

Born in Frackville, he was a son of the late Peter and Mary Wingle Milchunas.

He attend Shenandoah High School and Graphic Sketch Art School, Philadelphia.

He was a self-employed sign painter and artist and previously worked at Textile Machine, Reading, and WW Motor Co., Ephrata. Leon worked in all media of the art field including magazine illustrations.

A special interest was involved in the Amish and Mennonite cultures, as well as local historical sites. Painting murals was his greatest excitement. Leon held his first one-man art exhibit at the Cloister Country Store in 1963.

He served in the Army during World War II.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Adamstown.

He was the last of his immediate family.

He was the husband of Alta Heft Milchunas. They would have been married 61 years in November.

A graveside service was held Oct. 29 at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown. Stradling Funeral Homes, Akron/Ephrata, was in charge of arrangements. To send an online condolence, visit stradlingfuneralhome.com.
