Richard Torpey Obituary
Born Aug. 14, 1933, in Pottsville, he was a son of the late James J. and Madeline M. Honicker Torpey.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He was the co-owner of Eastern Press, Pottsville, for 53 years. He retired, but never really left the business, which continues to be family-operated.
He was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, and the American Legion, Pottsville.
He had a great love of and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, as well as doing puzzles, playing golf and building model cars.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James F. Torpey.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Joyce Thomas Torpey; a son, Richard J. Torpey and his wife, Krista B., Pottsville; daughters, Teresa E. Keating and her husband, Kevin, Pottsville, and Susan Marie Killian and her fiancee, Michael Mykulyn, Westminster, Md.; a sister, Patricia and her husband John Cielinski, Elyria, Ohio; six grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. The Rev. James M. Torpey will be the main celebrant and Monsignor Edward J. O'Connor will be concelebrant. A viewing will be held Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at St. Patrick Church, and also Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Hillside Road, Pottsville, with military honors.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Patrick Memorial Fund.
Lord-Bixler Funeral Home Inc., Pottsville, is in charge of arrangements.
