John Hansen Obituary

Stanwood - John (Jack) Hansen passed away Monday, December 1, 2025 after a recent diagnosis of heart disease. He was born March 25, 1950 in Seattle to Jake and Doris Hansen . He attended Catholic schools in Seattle until his junior year when he went to Ballard high school and graduated in 1968.

He was married to Elizabeth Otterson( Betsy) in 1979. They have two sons, Erik (MountLake Terrace), and Brian(Stanwood). They bought a 100 yr old house on 10 acres in Stanwood in 1984 and proceeded to put in a yard, a variety of trees which created a great bird habit, and restored the house to its original condition. John graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelors degree in science in 1972.

He enjoyed the woods and logged for a few years in Alaska and WA state before starting a career in the electrical trade. He worked for Seattle city light for 41 years when he retired in 2021. He left behind many longtime relationships with coworkers who appreciated his sense of humor and passion for sharing knowledge. What he may be known for mostly by many of you is his music. He started playing guitar when he was 12 years old at his mom's encouragement . He also played fiddle and pedal steel guitar, which he started playing in the 70s. Most of his band playing was in Skagit County in the country rock tradition. He continued to play all of his life .

In his legacy, his two sons both play music and continue his passion for it. A memorial will be held March 21st at 2:00 at The Sons of Norway Hall in Stanwood 9910 270th St NW Stanwood 98292 For additional information contact Erik at [email protected].
