Craig S Helgeland - Assistant Fire Chief
December 12, 2024
Steve,
You are the big brother that I never had. We'd worked together for years on our continual agency policy development and refinement language, and also as leaders in the risk management and safety committee. You'd tutored me when I was handed the reins of the agency during prior administrative transitions, . . . and boy was I grateful.
I will miss our occasional BBQ lunch escapes, and our expeditions to the WFC conferences, and also your eminent sharp wit. When I'd imposed upon you to undertake the grammatical review of my federal grant narratives, prior to final submittal, you'd done so with grace and eloquence.
The recollections that you'd shared with me of being "in-county" were altogether captivating and absorbing. My ears would always perk when you would speak of that life experience.
But now in my sadness I'm still comforted to know that we will each be with you again soon enough.
God speed my fire service brother.
Peggy, you already know that if ever need anything then reach out. We're close by.

Peggy
I was so sorry to read .Steve´s obituary. What a special person! I knew he enjoyed being a fireman but didn´t realize all the awards and extra awards he has earned. He was kind, giving and loved life. My condolences.

I am proud to say I worked with Steve at Sea-Land Service in the pricing department. He taught me the many things associated with the tariffs to the Jones Act trades. A great influence on me and my career with Sea-Land.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Peggy and family.

I was raised on Utter street near the Bungalow Dairy. My parents, D.J. and Analee Brethour were close friends of Pete and Grace Lich. My father and Pete hunted pheasants in Eastern Washington for over 20 years. As a kid I was lucky to accompany them on many hunting trips. I can remember Pete talking about Stephan going into the Air Force and how proud he was of him. In reading his story, Stephen lived an accomplished life. In later years while visiting clients in the Parkway Chateau, I had a chance to visit with Grace and share memories. Although I never met Stephen, I wanted to send my condolences and prayers to the Lich family for your loss. God bless you all!

Peggy as you know it is with deep sorrow to learn your (Stevie as known to you as his wife) husband has passed away. I feel for you missing him so very much. He came into your life as being a wonderful husband and a dedicated volunteer to the community for so many years. I look forward to seeing you soon to give you a real hug and share stories. Love you Cousin Peggy!
