Ann W.
Shealy
FLORENCE -- Ann W. Shealy completed these moments of her eternal life with Jesus Christ passing peacefully in her sleep on November 14, 2021. She was a person of faith, family and accomplishment.
Ann was born December 30, 1925, in Aurora, Indiana and would become the senior child of Jo Ella Marshall Wilson and Marvin D. Wilson.
Her family traveled from place to place where Marvin could find work, variously living in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Tennessee. In Nashville, she completed her formal education, graduating with a high school diploma.
While a senior in high school she was employed as the night manager of the Western Union office, at the time a source for service personnel to send messages home to their families when time came to deploy to the European or Pacific Theatres of the Second World War.
Working there she met a young soldier from Darlington who promised her marriage after the war. She did not take him seriously as she was only sixteen years of age. However, after the war, she married Boyce Allen Brasington in services at the Woodland Presbyterian Church in Nashville and relocated with him to Darlington.
Three years after the 1947 organization of the Air Force, Allen was commissioned Second Lieutenant and with Ann and their two sons received assignment to Randolph Field in San Antonio, Texas.
On April 8, 1952, while on active duty, Allen lost his life in an air crash in the Rocky Mountains.
Now a widow, with her two sons, Ann returned to Darlington and found work as a receptionist and bookkeeper at the Wilson Medical Clinic. Three years later she remarried and relocated to Florence.
In Florence she taught adult nutrition classes for the McLeod School of Nursing and spent her summers teaching swimming classes to children, and busied herself as a Sunday School teacher and church youth choir director.
She was later employed as the on-air personality at WBTW Television and WJMX Radio's Ann McCoy Show, wherein she presented home economic entertainment to area viewers.
She married Dr. William Johns Shealy of the Shealy Dental Clinic and they were happy until his death in 1987 where upon she retired.
She is survived by sons Lieutenant Colonel Boyce Allen Brasington, USMC, Retired and Mr. John William Brasington and grandchildren: Mr. B. Allen Brasington III of Asheville, N. C., Ms. Somer (Kevin) Chambley of Chesapeake, Va., Ms. Stephanie (Jeremy) Cain of Huber, N. C., Mr. Kenneth (Kristen) Brasington of Charlotte, N. C., Ms. Meghan (Anthony) DiFranco of Twinsburg, OH. and Mr. David Brasington of Baltimore, MD.
Also surviving are eleven nieces and nephews and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Second Lieutenant Brasington and Dr. Shealy, she was predeceased by sisters Sarah Wilson Massie and Rebecca Wilson Lanham and brother John Marvin Wilson.
Many Jewish, Muslim and Hindu friends enjoyed the hospitality of Ann's dinner table, though she was steadfast in placing her trust in Jesus Christ and to His care she is now entrusted.
The family wishes to express appreciation for the services of the Rev. Mike Mills and the congregants of Calvary Baptist Church in Florence, attorney William H. Johnson of Manning, financial advisor Nicole Hupfer of Edward Jones in Florence, Dr. Heather F. McCown, Dr. C. Lynne Belissary Maroney, Dr. James S. Woolery, Dr. John F. Payne and the professional staffs of the McLeod Hospital System, Bethea Retirement Community and McLeod Hospice House.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be considered for Calvary Baptist Church of Florence, the McLeod Foundation of Florence, The McLeod Hospice House or Bethea Retirement Community in Darlington.
A memorial service is planned for 2:00 in the afternoon, December 4th at Calvary Baptist Church, 915 Cherokee Road, Florence, S. C.
