Crane

Thomas Jefferson Crane, MD, 61, husband of Donna Barber Crane, died Friday, May 6, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Born May 17, 1960, in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Dr. James Thomas Crane and the late Geraldine Peedin Crane. He was a graduate of Furman University and the UofSC School of Medicine, completing his internal medicine residency at the Medical College of Virginia. He served in the US Air Force as a physician in Operation Desert Storm. Jeff was a Board-Certified internist, and he practiced for 14 years in Florence, SC. In 2007, he, along with his family, followed the Lord's calling to become medical missionaries in Ukraine with International Faith Initiatives. There, he worked with Ukrainian medical professionals to establish Universum Clinic. He trained and mentored thousands of physicians, medical students, and orphans in Ukraine. He received many awards recognizing his contributions to medical and humanitarian service and is one of few American physicians who have achieved medical licensure in Ukraine.

Survivors include, Donna, his wife of 36 years; six children, Dr. Austin Crane (Megan) of Columbia, David Crane of Columbia, Anna Kate Crane of Kyiv, Ukraine, Natalie Crane of Columbia, Nathan Crane (Vaviel) of Columbia, and Valeria Crane of Kyiv, Ukraine; two sisters, Lynn Cantrell (Glenn) of Anderson and Joyce Hawkins (Michael) of Travelers Rest; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Lucy Barber.

A funeral service will be held at 4 P.M. Tuesday at Sumter First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Dan Barber and the Rev. Timmy Powers officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4 P.M. Tuesday at Sumter First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Sumter First Baptist Church's Ukraine Ministry Fund.

Jeff was a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ. His greatest heart's desire was that his children walk in truth and that Ukrainian medical professionals and orphan children know the hope and peace that Jesus Christ offers.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
