Dave Leroy Thayer was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Minneapolis to Dr. Ellsworth A. and Helen K. (Gallehue) Thayer. He graduated from Fairmont High School in 1949, Wentworth Military Academy in 1951 and UND in 1954. He has an M.S. in Physical Education from Mankato State University in 1963 and in 1965 received his Secondary Certificate of Counseling and Guidance from MSU and his School Administration Certificate from Southern Ill University.
David was employed as a coach, teacher and Dean of Students with the Faribault School District 1966 - 1993, Western Military Academy '63 - '66, and Ceylon Public School '58 - '63. Dave was a retired Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force.
Dave married Edna Louise Wilke, on August 30, 1958 Church in Truman. They were blessed with 55 years of marriage.
Dave is survived by his wife Edna, children: son Scott (Ginger) Thayer of Chelsea, MI; daughter Tamara Thayer, Rochester; and daughter Brenda (Keith) Eisenschenk, Sartell. He was so proud of his nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. They are Ashley (Yan) Clermont, Germany; William (Whitney) Thayer and their daughters Lucy and Ella, Oswego, IL; Molly Thayer, Naperville, IL; Hannah Thayer, Chelsea, MI; Allison Cooney, Rochester; Andrew (Halie) Cooney and sons Brennan and Jackson, Gulfport, MS; Andrea Thayer, Rochester; Mathew and Rachel Eisenschenk, Sartell.
Visitation is 4 - 7 pm Friday, Feb. 14th at Boldt Funeral home in Faribault. A celebration of David's life will be 10 am on Saturday, Feb. 15th at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Faribault, MN. www.boldtfuneralhome.com
