Patrick McMullen Obituary

St. Cloud

July 8, 2002 - April 3, 2017

Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30PM on Monday, April 10, 2017 at the Church of St. Paul in St. Cloud, MN for Patrick R. McMullen, age 14, who passed away at home peacefully in the arms of his loving family after a six year courageous battle with brain cancer.  Rev. LeRoy Scheierl, Rev. Ben Kociemba and Deacon Jim Trout will concelebrate.  Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud immediately following Mass.  Visitation will be from 4-8PM on Sunday, April 9, 2017 and one hour prior to the service on Monday, all taking place at the Church of St. Paul.  GUESTS ARE INVITED TO WEAR THEIR FAVORITE SPORTS JERSEY, SHORTS, OR THE COLOR BLUE IN HONOR OF PATRICK.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.

Patrick Rodney McMullen was born July 8, 2002 in St. Cloud to Michael (Mac) and Lisa (Formanek) McMullen.  He was currently an eighth grader at Cathedral High School although he was physically unable to attend.  He had homebound tutoring and looked forward to his daily visits with his tutors.   Patrick loved school and especially loved math.  Patrick loved sports and loved to watch Notre Dame football, Viking football, Chicago Blackhawks Hockey, the Minnesota Wild Hockey and his beloved SCSU Husky Hockey team, with whom he had a special relationship.  His photo hangs in the Husky locker room.  Patrick himself took great pride in playing baseball, hockey, football, golf and family backyard games of kickball or whiffle ball.  He loved to fish at Grandma and Grandpa's, he loved to swim and he loved to ride his bike and scooter. Most of all, he loved to do anything with his big sister, Katie.  They were like two peas in a pod and made many memories together.  As Patrick's physical abilities declined, he relied on his iPad for school and entertainment.  Patrick loved to play slot machines, cribbage and word games on his iPad.

Patrick will be remembered for his tenacity, kindness, compassion, sense of humor, zest for life, for being a good friend and for his strong faith in God.  He had a quick wit and a smile that could light up the world.  Patrick was a warrior and fought hard against the disease that ravaged his body, but not his soul.

Patrick is survived by his parents, Michael (Mac) and Lisa McMullen of St. Cloud;  sister, Katie, at home; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Formanek of Henning; paternal grandmother Marlene McMullen of St. Cloud;  four-legged friends CoCo and Lucy; aunts and uncles, Stephen Formanek, Robert Formanek (Tessa), Daniel Formanek (Vesla), Darin McMullen (Karen); cousins, Sara Cameron (Brady), Kaila Formanek, Matthew Formanek, Heather Holien and Hannah Holien, and a large extended family including his faith and school communities.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Frank Formanek; paternal grandfather, Rodney McMullen; and uncle Brian McMullen.  In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Patrick's future Legacy Foundation.

Not sure what to say?

June 14, 2017

I am so sorry for the family and friends hit closely by this tragic event. God had a plan for him. He changed and inspired many lives, young and old. He was a survivor for 6 years. God said that Patrick was a great human being and was ready to die peaceful and go with Jesus to heaven.
