Thomas Findlay Obituary

Thomas L. Findlay, Jr., 66

St. Cloud

8/3/1950-3/18/2017

Died tragically on March 18, 2017.  Born August 3, 1950 in Chippewa Falls, WI. Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Dolores, and his brother, Jan. Survived by his wife, Bobbie;  his son, Thomas MacGregor (Melissa); stepdaughter Stacy; stepson Brian; sisters Tamara Wong and Patricia Anderson.  Also survived by nephews Chris (Amy), Corey (Kathy) and niece Aimee (Rick) and many relatives and friends. Lived in Wisconsin until age 7 and then the family moved to Coon Rapids, MN.  Graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1968 and then obtained an Associates degree from Rochester Community and Technical College in 2013.

Tom was a proud US Army veteran and served two tours in Vietnam with an artillery battery of the 5th Infantry Division.  He was awarded the Bronze Star, Good Conduct and several other awards. Tom could accomplish anything he set his mind to do.  In Montana, he started a bottling spring water business.  Subsequently lived in CA, AZ, ND and then returned to MN to be near his son. He most recently was driving taxi in St. Cloud and previously in Bismarck, ND he drove a bus for special needs clients.  People would say that Tom should have been a priest or psychologist because he loved getting to know people.  Any interaction with him could lead to a two hour conversation.  He was a tall man with barrel like physique, full white beard, great smile and wire rim glasses and was frequently called Santa Claus.  Tom will be forever missed and always in our hearts. A Celebration of Life will be held March 26 from 1-4 PM at Cremation Society of Minnesota, 1979 Old Hudson Rd, St. Paul with service at 3:00 PM. Interment on  March 27  12:45PM with Military Honors at the National Cemetery, Ft. Snelling, 7601 34th Avenue S, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials to VFW Post 428, 9-18th Avenue N, St. Cloud 56303 would be appreciated.  Please include Tom Findlay's name.

Tom was my brother and will always be missed. We had our differences but we enjoyed the same things and had become very close in the last five years. I will think of him with great love and respect
