Lyman Huff Obituary

KENNEBUNKPORT — Lyman P. Huff, 91, a lifelong resident of Pier Road, Cape Porpoise, died Friday, May 29, 2009, at St. Andre Health Care Facility in Biddeford, after a lengthy illness.

Lyman was born March 1, 1918, in Kennebunkport, a son of Lyman H. and Goldie Perry Huff.

Lyman's ties to Cape Porpoise go back to the founding of the community. He was born and brought up here and spent nearly his entire adult life with his loving wife, Louise Clark, the daughter of boat builder Clement Clark, in their home at the head of the harbor. In 1969, they were very proud to purchase and restore the Olde Garrison House, the oldest house in the village. Having spent his entire life on or beside the waters of Cape Porpoise, no one loved this special place more.

He went to school in Cape Porpoise and graduated from Kennebunkport High School. Lyman served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

He was a member of the Maine Lobstermen's Association, the Cape Porpoise Fire Department and the Church on the Cape in Cape Porpoise.

He was predeceased by his wife, Louise, in 1995; brothers, Lt. Donald Huff and Commander Emery Huff, and sister, Helen Huff Holmberg.

Lyman is survived by his sister, Dorothy Huff Porter; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were Tuesday, June 2, at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. A funeral service was held Wednesday, June 3, at the Church on the Cape, Langsford Road, Cape Porpoise, with the Rev. Ruth Merriam officiating. Interment was in Arundel Cemetery, Kennebunkport. Should friends desire, memorial donations may be sent to Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, P.O. Box 7004, Kennebunkport, ME 04046, or to the Arundel Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 11, Kennebunkport, ME 04046. Arrangements by the Bibber Memorial Chapel. Visit www.bibberfuneral.com.
