Marie Patch Obituary

PORTSMOUTH — Marie T. Patch, 80, died Friday, June 13, 2008, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Marie was born in Portland, Maine, a city she truly loved, on March 17, 1928. She was the only girl with five brothers, the children of Daniel and Mary (Kilfoyle) Hannigan. She was employed with New England Telephone Company after high school.

She married Arthur Patch, a career Navy man, and became a devoted wife. With her husband overseas she raised two sons by herself and made it seem like an easy task.

The widow of Arthur Patch, who died in 2005, survivors include her children, Darren Patch and wife Gina, and Albert Patch; grandchildren Hannah and Mari, all of Portsmouth; brothers Robert Hannigan of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Louis Hannigan of Gorham, Maine, and Earl Hannigan of Holden, Maine; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Frank and James Hannigan.

WE REMEMBER: After her sons grew up, she worked at Bed and Bath in Newington, from the day it opened until it closed 15 years later. She met a lot of people there and often spoke of her great experiences.

Marie was a devout Catholic and member of Corpus Christi Parish. She shared her faith with others by the life she led. In 1999 she became a grandmother and devoted her life to her granddaughters. In her last years, Hannah and Mari were all she talked about. She loved her family and will be tremendously missed.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 875 Woodbury Ave., Portsmouth. Burial will be in the N.H. Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. Memorials may be made to the New Franklin School Literacy Fund, 1 Franklin Drive, Portsmouth, NH 03801.

To the Patch Family, I worked with Marie at the telephone co. in Portland in the early 60s. I was fresh out of school and quite anxious about my first "real" job. Marie made me feel welcome and was always interested in what was new in my life and she was very helpful to me. I remember her beautiful smile and her good heart. I have thought of her often down thru the years. I know she is with Our Lord in her heavenly home. My thoughts and prayers to all of Marie's family and friends.
