Phillip Dean Obituary

NEWMARKET — Phillip E. Dean, 87, of Birch Drive died Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Sunbridge of Portsmouth after a long battle with vascular dementia.

Born April 24, 1922, in Melrose, Mass., he was the son of Raymond and Alice (Smith) Dean. He married Edna Grant and they raised their family in Saugus, Mass., before moving to Newmarket many years ago.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Edna Dean of Newmarket; three children, Randy G. Dean and his wife Diane of Newmarket, Gary P. Dean of Hampton and Carol J. Winsor and her husband Robert of Peabody, Mass.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Dean and his wife Elli of Woburn, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Marshall Dean and George Dean and sisters Hazel Jackson and Ruth Jensen.

WE REMEMBER: Phillip loved spending time with his family. The family spent summers in Greenland on Great Bay. He loved boating with family and friends. He was a professional drummer and participated in several Masonic fund-raising variety shows. He and his wife loved cruising to Bermuda and the Bahamas, and they enjoyed time on the island of Maui.

Phillip was a lithographer and worked for General Electric Co. at their Riverworks Plant in Lynn, Mass. He retired in 1984. He was a member of the Malden Grange and an usher and member of the Newmarket Community Church in Newmarket. Phillip was loved by all and will be missed by many.



SERVICES: A memorial visitation will be held Tuesday, May 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter Street, Newmarket, followed by a 3 p.m. memorial service at the funeral home. Family flowers only. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Newmarket Community Church or Beacon Hospice.
