Russell Winslow Obituary

EXETER - Russell Austin Winslow, of Exeter, N.H., and formerly New Castle and Manchester, N.H., died peacefully while surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at the age of 81.

Russell is survived by his wife Martha (Lepp Mulligan) Winslow, his children Hal Winslow of Marblehead, Mass., and Andy Winslow of Stratham, N.H., three grandchildren Peter, Joseph and Jacob Winslow, Martha's step children Sean Mulligan of Gilford, N.H., Moira Mulligan of Burlington, Vt., Sunny Mulligan Shea of Goffstown, N.H., Tom Mulligan of Goffstown, N.H., and Aileesh Mulligan of Goffstown, N.H., his sister Deborah (Winslow) Beattie of Nashua, N.H., his brother Jamie Bell of Union, Maine and his aunt Dr. Charlotte Lindgren Winslow of Auburndale, Mass. He was predeceased by his first wife Carolyn (Jacob) Winslow in 1985.

Russell was born on October 27, 1934, in Auburndale, Mass., to Richard A. and Portia (Russell) Winslow. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1956, and served in the Army for two years. He earned his Bachelor of Laws degree from Harvard Law School in 1961. He then worked as a lawyer for 28 years at Public Service Company of NH, retiring as General Counsel in 1989. He served for many years as a Trustee of Lasell College, continuing a long family tradition of leadership and support of that institution. He also served as Head of Trustees for the New Castle Congregational Church.

Russ was known for his love of hiking with family and friends, particularly in the White Mountains. He climbed all forty-eight 4,000 footers in N.H., as well as a number of the remaining 19 in Maine and Vermont. Russ loved music, reading and traveling, and will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and infectious smile.

SERVICES: A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Sunday, November 13, at 1 p.m., at the New Castle Congregational Church, 65 Main St, New Castle, N.H., 03854, with a gathering for all friends and family immediately following. Andy and Hal,
I am so sorry to hear about your father's passing. Some of my best childhood memories include time spent with your Dad and our Boy Scout troop 116. He is also the only one who ever took me sailing and I will cherish that memory. Even though we've grown apart over the years, I still think of the both of you often. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I go back to the days of Public Service Company versus the Clamshell Alliance and the events at Seabrook. Russ was a worthy opponent and a contact that was renewed on his move to Newcastle. I am sorry to learn f his passing...
