Allan Teitge Obituary

Allan B. TEITGE Died on July 20, 2002 at age 89 in Tacoma. Born in Tacoma Feb 22, 1913 he graduated from Stadium High School in 1930. He and his brother Jack built and successfully raced International Star Class yachts and thier cutter "Manana" on which they lived while attending the University of Washington. After working as a shipwright he used his life savings for flying lessons and joined Pan American World Airways as a pilot in 1942. On retiring as Captain in 1973 he returned to boat building in the Etchells 22 class and cruised extensively on his Ben Seaborn designed sloop "Concubine". His wife Barbara died of breast cancer in 1993 and son Gary was lost off the Oregon coast in 1983. He is survived by sons Robert, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan, Tom an artist in Kauai and Hailey Id., brother Jack of Tacoma, eight grandchildren and two great grandsons. Memorial Gathering of Friends and Family will be Thursday, August 15 from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the Tacoma Yacht Club, 5401 Waterfront Drive North, Tacoma 98407 (253)752-3555.
