Andrew McGarry Obituary

Andrew P. McGarry

In loving memory,

Happy 100th birthday!

Born Dec. 13, 1917 in Milton, Ok.

Died Jan. 17, 2017 in Medford,Or.

Andy was 99 when he succumbed to old age, and pneumonia. He was charming, witty, generous, intelligent, a poet, 100% Irish, and devout Catholic. He was a WWII veteran in the Navy. Andy was an elementary school teacher and worked for Atlantic Richfield for 20 years. He married my mom, Irene Corona in April of 1950. They had three children, Tim, Jimmy and Mary Ann. Both Irene and Jimmy predeceased Andy.

I miss you dad. Love, Mary

I´ve been trying to connect with Mr. Andy for the past 12 years and this morning I found a necklace and note he gave me before he moved to Oregon after all these years. From that note, I was able to find this information and see that he is now with the Lord as of 2017. I am devastated but he will truly be missed. May he rest in peace.

He was a great man! Loved seeing him at St. Alphonsus every Sunday.

Years ago, as I do now, I went to Christ the King to listen to early Mass, but I also went to listen to the many stories that Andy shared with me about his life experiences. I always admire his humor, respect for life and human diversity. Today while at early Mass I learned about his passing and momentarily looked at where he always set. I became deeply sadden, said a prayer and smiled with him. After he moved to Oregon, we continued our telephone conversations until I no longer had a telephone number for him. God bless you Andy and thanks for making me a better person.

He was a great guy and made people feel good about themselves. He had a wonderful Irish sense of humor. He loved working with kids especially in baseball and would try to bestow them the proper form and technique. He was a very devout man with Faith in God and his Blessed Mother.
