Brian E. Hellings
Brian E. Hellings, 57, of Winlock, Washington, died January 21, 2013 after an inspirational battle with cancer. His legacy of determination will live on in his family, friends, coworkers, and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Throughout his life, anytime anyone said, "that's never been done," he said, "I can and I will!". What a wonderful legacy for his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Hellings was born April 13, 1955 in Manchester, NH and was the eldest of 10 children. In 1974, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Edwards AFB in southern CA. Mr. Hellings worked as a mechanic first on the T-38 aircraft and later on the new A-10 Warthog Aircraft. He was one of very few maintenance personnel to attend the factory school. After an impressive 8 year career in the service of his beloved country, Brian left the military in 1981 and was hired by Boeing in Seattle as a Logistics Analyst for the ASAT program. Despite all odds, he rose from the entry to executive level quickly, setting one of many records during his career. He retired from Boeing after 28 years in 2010 as Deputy Director for Derivative Airplanes with his latest successes being the Executive Transport and Air Force 2. After leaving Boeing, Mr. Hellings began a new venture as President of Greenpoint Aerospace Company. The knowledge and experience he shared will continue to be an integral part of this organization of special people.
Brian enjoyed sports, playing cards (hearts & spades), snorkeling, Hawaii, teasing, nicknames, a good joke, and karaoke with family and friends. Brian was very proud of his family and enjoyed every minute they were together. Although he worked very hard, he found time to coach his son's little league team and support his daughters' activities.
He lives on in the hearts of his wife Cora Baluyot Hellings, his daughter Kristine Hellings; his son Jared Hellings and his wife Cara; his daughter Rebecca (Hellings) Stordahl and her husband Eric; and his adored grandson Jude Hellings all of Seattle. He was predeceased by his father, Richard E. Hellings of Manchester, NH. His family members include his mother Barbara (McDonough) Hellings, His Sister: Patricia Gamache of Sammamish WA; and 2 Brothers, 6 Sisters all of New Hampshire; 30 plus nieces and nephews, between the Hellings and Baluyot families for whom he was a great mentor.
Services were held at Holy Rosary Church in Seattle on January 26th. A mass of Christian Committal is being planned in Lakewood in the near future.
