Donald Teichman Obituary

Donald TEICHMAN Donald Max Teichman died May 8. He was born in 1926 in Yakima to Max and Gertrude Teichman, and grew up in North Bend. He spent his childhood on the family stump ranch, surviving the Great Depression, singing what he thought was opera on the stump stages to keep the bears away. The family moved into town eventually and operated a boarding house during the years of World War II. Don was the older brother, mentor, and protector of Robert, Rosie and Marle Jo. Robert has been a partner with John Marsh since 1971 and lives in Tulalip. Rosie married Roy Gallagher, raised their family in North Bend, and now lives in Chehalis. Jo married Walt Hill, and raised their children also in the family hometown where they still live. Donald graduated from Auburn Academy and attended the U.W., and served in the Army in Korea. In 1950 he met Gordon Woodside, who became his lifelong partner. They started an art gallery in Seattle which became the longest-lived gallery in the city's history, and is now known as theWoodside/Braseth Gallery. His friend and business partner, John Braseth and his wife and children became a part of Donald's family. Don and Gordon traveled the globe, and loved regularly visiting the grand cities of New York, Paris, and London, taking ocean cruises, attending stage plays and operas (the real ones now.) They created wonderful homes to live in. Gordon died in 2007. Don was an inveterate shopper and was gladly accompanied on shopping sprees by his good friend, David Cioe who lives just a couple of blocks away from Don's Capitol Hill townhouse. Don certainly was a sweetheart, a kind person who will be missed very much in this world. Don's family invite his friends to join them in a celebration of Don's life at his home in Seattle on Sunday May 30th from 2:00 p m.

Don,Gordon and I traveled many places since 1975. We had so many fun times together and would dine out is some of the finest restaurants in Seattle, including Rossellini's 410 in the earlier years. Don,Gordon and I would spend alot of time in the New York stores shopping and drinking red wine in the bars before the many musicals that we have seen together.
My partner Jay would go over to help Don with his gardens after Gordon passed away.
Don will be missed and remembered fondly by both Jay and myself.

I too have so many wonderful childhood memories of my dear Uncle. The wonderful dinners at Nana & Papa's, the fancy cars you drove, you always were so dapper and always were ready to smile and laugh with us. Trips to the gallery for art appreciation, the opera (which I couldn't understand but was so in awe of the beauty) and most lately sharing emails. You are gone from us now but will live forever in our hearts until we meet again.
With my love, Mimi (your oldest niece)

The family dinners at Nana and Papa's or in Seattle, and the many family picnics, the shopping trips in Seattle and fancy lunches, I love you dearly, your neice Marlene
