Elizabeth Turner Obituary

Elizabeth D. TURNER February 3, 1941 - November 24, 2003 Liz Turner passed away peacefully on November 24, 2003, while surrounded by her immediate family. She was born February 3, 1941, to Walter G. and Evelyn Durand in Peoria, IL. She grew up in the small town of Monmouth, IL. She then received her nursing diploma from St. Ambrose College, Davenport, IA, followed by a Bachelor of Science Degree from Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI. She worked as a nurse in Chicago for four years, then relocated to the VA Hospital in Long Beach, CA. She was considered a superior nurse by her colleagues. In Huntington Beach, CA, she met and fell in love with C.J. Turner. They married on December 1, 1972. She served as a 4-H Leader and as a volunteer for Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra. Although she lived in Southern California for 30 years, she truly found her home in Mill Creek, WA. She was active in Mill Creek Women's Club and Garden Club and a devoted volunteer at YWCA Working Wardrobe in Everett. We remember her love of flowers, gardening and all animals, especially penguins. She was a very creative person, and her sewing, crafts, and cake decorating amazed and delighted all. Preceded in death by parents and son Andy. Survived by husband CJ Turner, daughter and son-in-law Gillian and Jonathan McDunn, University City, MO; son Jared Turner, Austin, TX, sisters, Mary (John B.) Thomas, Shoreline, WA, and Patricia (Robert J.) Elliott, Janesville, WI and six nephews. An informal memorial service will be held at YWCA Building, 3301 Broadway, Everett, on Friday, November 28, 2003 at 11 a.m. Non-black attire encouraged. Remembrances may be made to Pathways for Women.

Many people say that a daugheter is a lot like her mother, even if she tries not to be. If your daughter is anything like you were, you have done a beautiful job as a mother. Although I do not know a great deal about you, I do know that everything that you've taught Gillian has shown through. She is a great person and I am blessed that I've met her and I know I would feel the same if I was ever blessed with your presence. In Loving Memory,

Latasha Nelson

Dear CJ, Jill, Jared, and Jonathan,

Your wife and mother was a warm and wonderful woman that cared very deeply for all of you. She knew how much you cared for her too. Remember always how much joy she had in your life together.

It is so hard on you the survivors that she went so fast, but treasure the thought that she did not suffer and she went in peace. Love, Aunt Pat

To Liz's Family:

I have lived in Mill Creek for only a few years but to know Liz for that short time was very special. She was a kind and loving person who will be greatly missed. I am glad to have met her family at the memorial service. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers. Gillian - I hope you enjoy St. Louis (I'm the one from Alton, IL).
