Janet (Jan) Abbenhouse CORY Janet Abbenhouse Cory passed away on September 2, 2010 after struggling with the end stage of recently diagnosed Cystic Fibrosis. She was born in New Jersey in 1949 to Lois (deceased) and Phil Abbenhouse and moved to Seattle at an early age. She graduated from West Seattle High School and Seattle Community College and had a lifetime of careers in various hospitality industries, was an estate manager, and then more recently was an executive assistant in the Radiology Department at the University of Washington Medical Center. She also spent a number of years as a Diplomat with the Seattle Chamber of Commerce. Her artistic talent and love for making her surroundings beautiful were reflected in her well known decorations at home throughout the year and especially at holiday time. She also enjoyed working with a friend on many decorating endeavors for weddings and parties. Her love of life, of style and class, and of family will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. Janet is survived by her long term partner Don James, her father Phil Abbenhouse, her two sisters Julie McGuire and Linda McRea, four nieces, and her very special four legged friend Angel. A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2010 @ 3:00 PM at the Kent Historical Society, 855 E. Smith Street, Kent, WA. I've known Janet since the 60's when Jan, Don and I were all in High School, I was at Queen Anne and she was at West Seattle and we were all in a youth group at Seattle's First Methodist Church. She always had an infectious smile that brightened up a room and from other's comments it seems to have continued for 40+ years. In 1964 Jan and I were on a church youth trip from Seattle to Boston via New York City, caught the NY World's Fair, visited the Capitol in Washington DC, continued on through Nashville, St. Louis and other places on the way back to Seattle. Ten or so teenagers in two 9 passenger station wagons with two counselors for several weeks - what an interesting trip. After High School, I disappeared from Seattle for 24 years and only saw Jan once during a visit home to see my mother. After I retired from the Coast Guard and came home for good I became much better friends with her folks through committees at church and saw Janet a few times when she came up to church with Phil and Lois. Through Phil I kept up with Janet and was very pleased to find out that she and my friend Don had gotten together. When I saw Jan last, at church on a holiday, she still had a smile that lit up the room and was as joyful as I think I have ever seen anyone. My heart goes out to Don, Phil and one of her cousins I met in Edmonds that brought me up to date in their loss of a very, very special person.

I am deeply saddened to learn that Jan left the party so early in life. I enjoyed getting to know her as a fellow diplomat at the Seattle Chamber of Commerce and enjoyed lunch with her while she was working at UW Radiology. This comes as a huge shock. I will surely miss her pizzaz and great flair for life.

Jan was an extraordinary woman! She will truly be missed by many, but our memories will remain forever. I am blessed to have had her touch my life, and I am forever grateful for the happiness she brought to my dearest Don. Love, Fae
