Jean Gilmore Obituary

Jean (Jeanne) P. Gilmore

Jean died from congestive heart failure at age 92, October 6, 2018, at Fairwinds in Redmond, WA, surrounded by loved ones and under the care of Providence Hospice. She recently moved from her condo in Chambers Gardens in Lakewood, which she called her home since 1990.

Jean, who preferred to be known as Jeanne, was born Jean Phyllis Fritz on May 28, 1926, to Caroline and Johann Fritz. She was the youngest of four sisters and was very proud of her German/Norwegian heritage. She was raised in Omak where she graduated from Omak High in 1944. She always harbored a fondness for Omak and her high school years.

Jeanne attended EWC where she met and married James Gilmore, her husband of 54 years. They had three children, Ryan, Roberta and Caroline, and lived all of their married life in Tacoma except for 8 years in Yakima, 1970-1978. Jeanne graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse in July, 1967. She was very proud of this achievement and worked with Dr. Joseph Martin in Tacoma. Jeanne was a wonderful nurse, and loved her nursing career.

Jeanne had a green thumb. Her begonias were the envy of the neighborhood. She was at her happiest sitting outside on her patio soaking up the sun. Jeanne was meticulous about her appearance, shopping for clothes and makeup until her last days. She was a proud and spunky lady and worked hard at staying young at heart.

Her sense of humor was contagious. Once giggling, there was no stopping her. Jeanne loved celebrations with her family. Always enjoying a splash of champagne for special events, and never forgetting to sing "Happy Birthday" to her family members.

Jeanne is survived by daughters, Roberta (Greg) Bemis and Caroline (Charley) Vance. Grandsons, Conor (Jamie) Bemis and Kyle (Kevin) Bemis, who fondly remember her as "Ninner". And many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband James; son, Ryan, and sisters Esther Richardson, Katherine Karp and Louise Anderson.

Burial will take place this summer at her family plot in Omak Cemetery.

Donations in her memory can be made to Providence Hospice of Seattle Foundation, 2811 S. 102nd St., #220, Tukwila, WA 98168.
