Joan Grass Obituary

Joan Pribnow Grass

Joan passed away on June 24,

2018 after a long illness. She was born in Mankato, MN to Harry and Olive Pribnow on May 6, 1928. Joan was an adventurous young woman. She worked summers at the lodge in Glacier NP while attending U. of Minnesota. After graduating she went to work for Northwest Orient Airlines and transferred to Seattle in 1952. She married first husband Peter A. Gartshore in 1953 and soon after became a loving and devoted mother to her two sons, Todd and Brian.

The second chapter of her life began in 1976 with her marriage to Richard B. Grass. She welcomed his children Jeff and Tooney to her family. She happily filled the next 25 years with travel, family and friends.

Joan was a kind and warm woman who made friends wherever she went. She enjoyed bridge and other activities with a close circle of friends for many years. She had a talent for making the people around her feel special, particularly children. She found fulfillment in her work with the Guardian Ad-Litem program during its early years.

Although the merciless disease of Alzheimer's took her memory, it could never take her sweet soul. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard B. Grass, brother Warren Pribnow and son Todd A. Gartshore. Her survivors include sons Brian S. Gartshore (Tammy Offield), Jeffrey B. Grass (Edna), daughter Tooney Pearce, daughters-in-law Bethany Gartshore and Kathleen Gartshore, first husband Peter A. Gartshore, 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandkids, 2 nieces and 3 nephews. Also her dear and devoted sister Carolyn P. Evans (Dick) with whom she had a special loving relationship. She recieved tender care from Nilla and family at Villa Care AFC.

Your dark time of trial is over.

You are free again Mom. Godspeed.

From the first time we met Joan she was a bright spirit, radiating positivity. She was a blessing to Dick and hopefully they are now reunited eternally.

Celebrating a life well lived. Joan was always a gracious woman, and good sport, the times that we met. Thinking of the Grass family and those that loved her. Peace now

Dear Brian and Tammy and Peter along with the Grass Family,
My love, thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. I never met Joan but as a long time friend of Peter and Brian I share the pain of your loss. Knowing she is finally at peace I'm sure helps you through these days of sorrow. I know the loss of ones dear mother is so hard. It has now been 13 years since I lost my precious mom and it easy but knowing she is at peace has to help you all.
Take care of yourselves.
Love,
Margo
