I never met Joe, but his groundwork in the Pickets was a big inspiration to subsequent explorers including myself. Standing on the shoulders of giants! thanks Joe, Wayne Wallace

Was best friend of Alan Firey in 60s always admired his mother and father they were great parents. The Fireys gave me my first set of skis and taught me how to ski. Great memories of the whole family. Ran into Joe later in life in his 80s he was still doing well,he was a great man that will really be missed.

I am very sorry to learn of the passing of Prof. Joe Firey. Although Joe had retired before I joined the UW in 1985, "he tinkered" in the combustion lab so often that I became familiar with his work. I greatly admired his enormous expertise and gentle personality. My sincere condolences to the extended Firey family. Mark Tuttle

Carla and family,
My sincere condolences on the loss of Joe. I always enjoyed the several times I had the opportunity to speak to him. His history of the Cascades and power generation was fascinating to me.
Sincerely
