John Corriveau Obituary

John Corriveau

John Corriveau passed away peacefully on March 25, 2017 after 90 years of a life well lived, surrounded by his family.

He was the son of Ed and Clara Corriveau, born in Alpena, Michigan, on May 9, 1926. Growing up on the family farm in Millersburg, MI, with 3 sisters and 1 brother he realized the importance of a good education. After graduating from High School, he enlisted in the Navy, serving in the Aleutians and Bremerton, WA where he fell in love with Mount Rainier and the Pacific Northwest. He attended Michigan State University where he met Mary Isabel Couture, the love of his life. They married September 10, 1949.

After graduation John and Mary moved to the Pacific Northwest. He had a 20-year sales career with IBM, in Seattle, Boise, ID and Helena, MT and retired with Adler Business Machines at age 57. During those years, they raised 5 children in Helena, MT and Mercer Island, WA, always stressing independence, education, and a love for the outdoors. They spent the next 25 years on the go - traveling, enjoying their children's families, spending time at their Poulsbo beach cabin, and fostering many friendships. Clamming at Ocean Shores, Placid Lake, MT visits, walking the beaches in Hawaii, running 10K's, growing his famous tomatoes, frequenting the Washington Athletic Club, skiing Alpental and Mt. Bachelor, Elder Hostel trips, and summiting Mt. Rainier were among his favorite activities. His friendliness and acceptance of all is his legacy. It sustains those who knew and loved him.

John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary, his children Gerard (Tracy), Michelle McPhee (Malcolm), Geof (Sue), Jon (Kathleen), and Mary Ann Kinner (Gary), his grandchildren Malcolm, Meagan, Dylan, Zach, Charlie, George, Joseph and Nicole, his sisters Barbara, Leo, Helen. His brother Peter preceded him in death.

A celebration of Life will be held with family. No services are planned. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Northwest, 227 Freeway Dr., Suite A, Mt. Vernon, WA 98273 or at www.hospicenw.org.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel.

John-bless you for giving Mary the time to go hiking, camping, and skiing with "the Ladies"..We had some wonderful times and adventures which made us better women.

I did not know you very well but I do remember one day when you were feeling poorly I stopped by to visit Mary. She said you were not feeling well and would not come out. However you did make the effort and came out and the three of us had a nice visit.

Blessings to you as you move to your next life...And sincere condolences, love and smiles to your family.
