John Hoban Obituary

John G. "Gerry" HOBAN November 5, 1943 - August 30, 2003 Most loved brother and best buddy to sister Phyllis Hoban O'Leary, (brother-in-law Michael O'Leary). Adoring, devoted "Uncle Gerry the Kiddie's Pal" to Katie and Rosie O'Leary of San Francisco died suddenly after surviving a two year struggle with pancreatic cancer. Also survived by sister Mary Jane Koch of Bellingham, Laura Webb (Ian Webb) and nieces Anne and Heather Webb of Seattle. Preceded in death by parents John and Catherine Hoban. A graduate of Western Washington University in Urban Planning and Education. Gerry loved to cook and could come to one's house not only with the ingredients for the meal but with his own pots, pans and spices. He had an eye for good quality items that he spotted at thrift shops. He could spot trash at junk stores that were real treasures at bargain prices. He liked to refer to himself as a trader of antiquities. Gerry devoted endless hours to helping the Mentally Ill in Whatcom County. His friends could count on receiving cards, letters and calls which he so enjoyed... His magnificient light will live on forever in our hearts. A celebration of his life on Monday, September 8th at 4 pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 18th Ave. and Aloha. Burial in Ferndale, WA. Donations in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society.

My sincere regrets to Phyllis, MJ and Laura. I wish I had been able to meet my birth Uncle and it saddens me that I did not. I just found out today of your loss and will keep you all in my prayers.
