Joseph Mackie Obituary
Joseph Neilan (Nick) Mackie, age 79, of Port Townsend, Washington passed away at his home on January 11, 2014. He is survived by his beloved wife Linda, daughter Heidi and sons Scott and Todd as well as 6 grandchildren and his brother Gary and sister Marcy.
Nick was born on August 22, 1934 in Langley, Whidbey Island to Joe and Bernie Mackie. He attended Lincoln High School where he was voted senior class president. He attended the University of Washington and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Nick was especially proud of his service as a United States Marine and soon after his tour of duty, joined the King County Sheriff's Department where he rose to the rank of Major and was Commander of the Detective Division when he retired.
An avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, he and Linda were especially fond of boating the waterways of western Washington and Canada from their home base at the Port Townsend Yacht Club. In his final years, Nick was becoming a knife maker of some acclaim among those who were lucky enough to be gifted with one of his creations.
Nick will be remembered by all who knew him as a man of honor and a good friend, for his strength of will and loyalty to those he loved and most notably as a man who could and did anything he put his amazing mind to.

Mr. Mackie, I never knew you sir but I remember you on the news when I was a little boy. You did the press on t.v. during the Ted Bundy Investigation and I thank you for making King County safe, Brian Alben.
