Kenelm Winslow Obituary

Kenelm WINSLOW, III Born September 2, 1928 in Seattle to Kenelm Winslow, Jr. and Mary Delafield Winslow, passed away January 18, 2008 in Anacortes due to complications from Lymphoma. Ken spent his early years attending Seattle Public Schools, later boarded at Shawnigan Lake School on Vancouver Island and Menlo Park High School in California. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for two years before attending New York University for a short time. In 1957, Ken married Sheila Hook. From an early age, Ken exhibited a keen interest in cars and motors, spending countless hours watching the goings on at Kriegel's Garage in Seattle's Madrona neighborhood. Not surprisingly, he began his business career working as a salesman for several Seattle-area car dealerships. Eventually, Ken was a co-founder of Crown Motors in Lynnwood. Later, he spent many years in regional sales management positions with the Fleetguard division of Cummins, Inc. from which he retired before settling in Anacortes. Ken was a great people person. He joined various community organizations in his retirement, including the Anacortes Kiwanis Sunrisers, of which he is a past-president. He also served on the board of the Skyline Beach Club and as a deacon of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Preceded in death by his sister, Mary Marsh, Ken is survived by two daughters: Ann Carpenter (Bill) and Laura Weaver (Michael); five grandchildren: Emily, Abegail and Nate Carpenter, and Nick and Allison Weaver; sister Nina Hayes; dear friend Jerri Eichorn; nephews Winslow and William Hayes, and Henry, Joseph and Kenelm Marsh; and niece Anne Marsh. A Memorial Celebration of Ken's life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 28 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1300 - 9th St., Anacortes, WA 98221. Remembrances may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or Skagit Hospice, 819 S. 13th St., Mount Vernon, WA 98274 or Anacortes Kiwanis Sunrisers, P.O. Box 533, Anacortes, WA 98221.
