LaVerne Brett Obituary

LaVerne (Nicki) BRETT In Remembrance Our beloved Laverne passed on May 18, 2011. She was especially dedicated to her family and friends. She brought both excitement and many priceless memories into our lives. LaVerne was born on October 8, 1925, and was raised by Della and Clarence DeLong in Seattle. She was an only child who grew up in Seattle, and graduated from West Seattle High School in 1943. After high school, during the war, LaVerne worked for Bell Telephone. Not too long after, she met and fell in love with Stanley Brett. The two married in 1948, and she supported him through Engineering School at the University of Washington. The two shared many common interests and passions, one of which being skiing. LaVerne and Stanley were very passionate about skiing in the Cascades (Alpental & Timberline), and the Rockies (Sun Valley). They were very involved with the Sahalie Ski Club, which became their second home during the winter, when they and their three children spent countless hours carving up the mountain. In the off-season, LaVerne could be found playing tennis with her tennis group, RVing, or boating in Puget Sound, the San Juans, Canada, and Hood Canal. Her last ten years were spent with Stanley and their dog, Ginger, at their beautiful cabin on Hood Canal. Relaxation, boating, and plenty of oysters were literally in their backyard. During her later years, LaVerne battled cancer and Alzheimer's disease, and recently passed away on May 18. Her last few months were filled with much love and many visits from family and friends. LaVerne is survived by her husband, Stanley, of 62 years,as well as her children Steve (Deana), Nancy (Davis), Susan (Michael); Grandchildren Christopher (Crystal), Angela (Paul), Valerie, Linnell, Alecia, Sarah (Chris), Rebecca, and Andrew; and great-grandchildren Aris, and Adina. Service will be held at Judson Park Retirement in DesMoines, Wa on June 8th, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Private service on Thursday at Tahoma National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.
