Madeleine Lucas Obituary

Madeleine Miller LUCAS Madeleine Miller Lucas, nee' Madeleine Mae Miller, 79, died on January 20, 2011 of complications from congestive heart failure. She was born May 6, 1933 in Queens, New York City, New York, the daughter of John and Margaret Miller. Madeleine graduated from Hunter high school, class of 1951. Following graduation, she attended Hunter College and the University of Michigan, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Humanities. After college Madeleine met and married Andre' Cavaro Lucas, a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. Andre' and Madeleine travelled extensively in Europe and the United States as part of Andre's military career, living in Germany, France, New Mexico, Kansas, North Carolina, Georgia and New York, to name a few. Madeleine settled in Seattle, Washington after Andre' was killed in Vietnam in 1970. Upon her retirement from her job at the Census Bureau, Madeleine moved to Reno, Nevada, where she lived until her death with her significant other, John Yurgavich. Madeleine loved to play bridge, collect stamps and travel throughout her life. She leaves behind two sons, John Lucas of Tenino, Washington and William Lucas of Edmonds, Washington, their wives Susan and Catherine, two grandsons Andre' and Ian Lucas and a stepgrandson, Jason Greene. A service of remembrance will be held at the Dusted Valley Winery tasting room in Woodinville, Washington at six o'clock in the evening on Friday, May 6, 2011. Madeleine's ashes will be laid to rest next to her husband at the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York on June 22, 2011.

John and Bill I am so sorry to hear about your mom. She was a very special person and made this world a wonderful place. It's been a long time but I hope you and your families are doing well.

The entire Lucas family have always been so special to everyone who has ever met them! Enjoying life to the fullest and always there with kindness! Madeleine always made us laugh and had a special way about her and even though it has been 35 years since I have seen her or John and Bill
