Michael Abercrombie Obituary

Michael Jack Abercrombie

9/27/56 - 9/9/18

Michael was born the third child of Jack and Jeanne Abercrombie and grew up in the Wallingford district in Seattle. He attended Interlake Grade School, Hamilton Jr. High and graduated from Ingraham High School in 1974.

He spent a year at Evergreen College in Olympia, WA and then the next several years pursuing a career in music. He found the performing side very enjoyable but discovered the business side to be very difficult. He began his professional career in the late 70's first in the plumbing supply business, next in purchasing for a major hotel, and then spent the majority of his life in the food service business. He started as a sales rep, then District Manager, and up to VP of Sales for Washington and Alaska.

In December of 1982 he married Monika Wolf and they had two daughters, Alysa and Kristin. They lived most of their lives together in the Edmonds/Lynnwood communities along with lots of time at the family summer home on Whidbey Island.

Michael never gave up on his passion for Music. Our Birthdays, Christmas's, Weddings were all "extra special" with him at the piano. In his off time he played in bars, nightclubs, casino's and lots of private events with different groups over all these years. Music was a piece of his life inside and out. Playing the keyboard and piano was his happy place. You could feel the joy from a mile away. He was fun to be around, cared about everyone, and could change the feel of a room just upon entering.

Michael left us suddenly after years of dealing with the after effects of several cancer treatments.

He fought the good fight.

He is survived by his daughters, Alysa Sturm (Jacob) granddaughter Raeley Strum and Kristin Abercrombie (Tony Dimarco). Brother Steve Abercrombie (Andrea) niece Brei Haywood (Eric), Sister Cathy Moray nephews Zachary and Lucas Moray and many cousins and extended family members that loved him very much. If you would like to make donations, please feel free to make them to Strong Against Cancer in Michael's name. We will celebrate him on Sunday October 14th at 4pm at the Nile Shriners Golf Club in Mountlake Terrace, WA.

When I first moved to the Wallingford neighborhood in second grade, there were so many Mikes that they had to put us in the corners of the room so we would not get confused as to who the teacher was calling on. Mike was a good classmate and good kid through grade school and junior high. My bad luck that I did not get to know him as an adult. My condolences to his family.

Mike was such a joyful person and so totally enamored with the sounds those ivories made! Steve Gregory, my deceased husband, and I sold he and Monica their first home in the Greenwood area of Seattle. I remember him helping us move our piano to our new home....he rode with it in the back of the pickup while playing it (no seat belt...nor police)...but within a few miles!
