Mike brought joy and laughter to any person he met and into any room he entered. I loved him, and will miss him.
I said this at the memorial service but I will put it in writing for you Laurie. From the first week I knew your family and Mike was preparing to leave to go and fish for the winter, I raised my right hand and made a vow to him that I would take good care of his family while he was gone. It became our little "ritual" I would find him before he would leave to fish and vow to take good care of his family while he was gone. And now I say to you Laurie, now that you have become my friend over the years, that I will take good care of you and the kids while Mike is gone.

Laurie,
We are so sorry to hear about your loss. We are praying for your family during this difficult time.
Steve & I were just talking about the time the boys came out to put gravel in our driveway. We'll never forget how Mike set the example by grabbing the shovel first and showing them how to do it. Then staying half the afternoon to help them. He was a father that set the bar high for all the father's that knew him.
May God comfort you and your children at this time! We're praying for you!

I still can't seem to realize why God takes such wonderful giving people to him when a man like Mike was giving so much of himself to so many people here on earth. I have numerous memories of Mike throughout my life. From 4th grade at St Alphonsus, I met a true friend and a great family in his parents and sisters. Mike honored me by serving as an alter server at my Sisters funeral when we were 17. He helped me through that difficult time that I went through. Aways stressing to use my "faith" to help me through my loss. As we grew up I got to meet his future wife Laurie shortly after High school at his apartment in Ballard. I have numerous memories of skiing with Mike at my family's cabin at Crystal Mountain as both kids and as young men with tons of memorable times, like when mike split open his Knee at the swimming pool. What a long ride to the hospital in Enumclaw, but we laughed about it all the way down the hill. Mike and I lost track of one another for about 10 or so years , but we found each other in a equipment shed on a Mill Creek little league baseball diamond in 2000. I was blessed to re-enter his life and meet his beautiful family. My Daughter was coached by Mike in the Christian youth baseball league and I got to coach his son Brian in baseball off and on over the next nine years. I told Mike how great it was that he and I get to see our sons play baseball together just like Mike and I did back in Ballard all those years ago. He always said that we were blessed. He was so right! I will cheerish our friendship always, he always was there if I needed a favor as he was for everyone that he knew. I witnessed that almost everytime we got together. His love for his family was his strength as he shared with me once how tough it was to go away fishing each time during the years. However, he said that when he would get home, he made sure that he made up for the lost time in spades. I will pray for Laurie and her beautiful children, and I pray that God can give them all the strength and courage to get through this extremely difficult time. I love you Mike, my you rest in eternal peace.
