This is to respectfully post some remembrances of Naila Harper. As a preliminary, note that my wife was born in Iran and that Naila was born not far away, in Iraq. My main reason for posting this remembrance is that I first became aware of Naila's family in the year 1975 when I began reading publications by her husband, Dr. Alfred E. Harper of the University of Wisconsin - Madison. I got my Ph.D. in the Dept. of Nutritional Sciences at U.C. Berkeley in early 1980 and, later on that year, I was offered a research position at the Univ. of Wisconsin - Madison. I accepted this job offer, and later on that same year I met Prof. Alfred E. Harper and soon became close friends with a few members of Prof. Harper's laboratory, most notably, with Kevin Block. During my term at U.C. Berkeley, my job was to do research on 1-carbon metabolism as mediated by the vitamin, folic acid. During my term at Univ. Wisconsin - Madison, my job was to do research on 1-carbon metabolism, as mediated by the vitamin, vitamin K. Of the things that contribute to making me a human being on the planet Earth, are my ten years of laboratory research experience on amino acids and 1-carbon metabolism and my knowledge of Professor Alfred Harper's contributions to this field of research. I devote every ounce of my soul to respecting the lives of Naila Harper and her husband, Prof. Alfred Harper. Attached here is a photograph of me sitting on the steps of the building where Prof. Harper once worked. This is the best that I can do, for remembering and honoring the life of Naila Harper. - - -Tom Brody, Ph.D.

This is to provide a respectful remembrance of Naila Evelyn Harper. I was a colleague of Ms. Harper's husband, Prof. Alfred Harper in the years 1980-1984, when I worked at University of Wisconsin, where my laboratory was in the next room down from Prof. Harper's laboratory. Although I never met Naila (Prof. Harper's wife), I did know her name at the time. My best friend in my entire life (Dr. Kevin Block) was a grad student in Prof. Harper's laboratory. My only other connection with Naila (and this is a remote connection) is that I eventually I married a Persian girl (please note that Naila is from Iraq). Regarding Naila's interest in the Unitarian church, it might be noted that I attended a Unitarian church in the years, 1961-1963, at the time when my family lived in Seattle. That's all!!! --Tom Brody, Ph.D.
