Paul Jaffe Obituary

Paul Jeffrey Jaffe

January 20, 1949 ~ October 17, 2016

Our beloved Paul (PJ) Jaffe passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 7:20 pm in Seattle, Washington, at the age of 67. Paul was born on January 20, 1949, to Ruby and Sidney Jaffe. He grew up in Seattle, with his brother Larry and his sister Susan. Paul graduated from Roosevelt High School, class of 1967, then attended the University of Denver, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications.

His love for his family brought him back to Seattle, where he worked alongside his father, managing their small family business, JAFCO; which rapidly expanded into a successful chain of catalog showroom retail stores. In 1990, Paul's "Gift of Gab" led him to an amazing opportunity in Taiwan. He co-hosted a morning radio show with IRCT, (International Community Radio Taipei) and became well known as the "nice man on the radio." During that time, Paul met the love of his life, Maria. They eventually returned to the USA together and were married in 1997. Two years later their son Joshua was born and Paul's life suddenly had new meaning! Paul had a passion for classic cars, and was a coffee connoisseur. He lived life the PJ way! His quick wit and quirky humor will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him and loved him.

Paul is survived by his wife Maria Jaffe, his son Joshua Jaffe, sister Sue Silberman, sister-in-law Debbie Jaffe; three nieces, Lori Silberman, Jenifer Thornton and Sydney Jaffe . . . AND his loyal companion "Cognac."

I knew Paul his whole life, as our parents were friends, and his brother and my brother were friends. We got closer in high school and thereafter. I adopter his mother as mine, when my mother passed when I was 16. After high school we would go to dinners at Newton Place with his parents and several other friends. Ultimately I was coerced to work at Jafco and ultimately managed the stereo department at the Westlake store. In our later years we would meet for lunch or dinner, specifically at either Thai or Vietnamese restaurants. I was by his side the night he passed and I will never forget our friendship and how it survived his whole life and after. Love you to the end of my life. RIP Brother!

When you haven't been in contact with someone for 50 plus years, it's a shock to find out that they have passed. Such is the case here. Paul and I both worked on the School newspaper at Roosevelt high and we both had a love for automobiles. I remember a time when we drove and pushed my '34 ford down to the Jafco store on Westlake Ave, needless to say, that was a day we never forgot!

I can see he was deeply loved by many and will be missed and remembered...RIP my old friend

I had the pleasure to work and be friends with Paul during his stint as an on-air personality here in Taiwan. He had a keen wit and a kind heart, two qualities that endeared him to many while he was in Taiwan. He will be sorely missed, but his warm smile and joyful laugh will live on in our hearts.

These words I feel I have to share,
So take my hand...I'll lead you there.
So many broken hearts today,
For now he's gone, that's what they say.
Over the rainbow, is where he'll play
While our world here is gloomy grey.
Confusion, anger...How come? Why?
His wings have lifted him to the sky.
For those of us left here to weep,
We cherish memories that we'll keep.
We won't forget, nor say goodbye
But rather double-knot our tie.
And when we wish upon your star,
We'll keep you close, yet you seem far.
Whether on the yellow brick road,
To the East or to the West
You're forever in our hearts,
And in our treasure chests.

Uncle Paul,
Thank you for your love and laughter...and always being there for me. You are the coolest Uncle ever!
I love you & miss you...
today & always.

Our Hugs go out to Maria and Josh, You were the light of Paul's life. At every visit to Autologic he would bring us up to date on how you both were doing. He was so proud of Josh as he grew to a young man. Maria, the care you provided during his illness was such a tremendous gift to Paul. He spoke so highly of you. He loved you both dearly and you could feel it in his voice.
When we first met Paul we knew we were going to have a friend whose company we would enjoy. Heading out to the house on Ames lake and getting the tour was a high point in my life. Paul had so many great stories to tell and delivered them with great skill.
It was an honor and a privilege to get to work with Paul on his automotive projects. He earned our respect with every interaction we had.
Later in life when Paul came to visit with Cognac it was a highlight of our day. He will truly be missed. He was a good man.

Boobie. We did it all together. We were the Wild yid kids growing up. Our laughter was heard around the universe. At least at synagogue anyway. I will miss you terribly. But I will be with you again, just leave room for me when I get there. Blessings to Maria & Josh may you be at peace with this deepest loss. The halls of heaven will rain with laughter as Paul has arrived,in God's hands he is now,AMEN

Marilyn and I want to express our sincere condolences on Paul's passing.
In 1968 when I returned from 2 years over seas duty in the Navy, with the help of my father, Shay Suckerman and an introduction by Walter Odom, Sid Jaffe gave me an incredible opportunity to learn the ropes of retail and wholesale working at Jafco. While working there as the luggage buyer, I got to know Paul and Larry very well. Paul did sincerely have a unique wit and great gift of gab.
Thank you for some great memories Paul, you will be missed.
