Peter Knudsen Obituary

Peter Lee KNUDSEN With the death of Peter Lee Knudsen at age 57 on July 15, Seattle lost one of its most highly respected citizens. Lee figured prominently in the Pacific Northwest Marine Trade throughout his business career. As owner of Doc Freeman's Marine Supply, he was very proud of the numerous commendations awarded Doc's from such prominent companies as Sabre/Lehman, Crusader and Yanmar marine engine lines and Velvet Drive Transmissions. Throughout his business career he was identified as a leader in the marine hardware trade. His business acumen and integrity were widely admired and highly respected. Lee's friends included classmates, neighbors, business associates, employees and even competitors. He was beloved by everyone who learned to rely on his wit, counsel and intelligent earnest cooperation. He was of the highest character, both courteous and kindly: artist, linguist, businessman. A gentleman and a scholar. A Ballard native, born May 30, 1947 to Peter Carl Knudsen and Elizabeth LaRue Johnson Knudsen. Attended Ballard High School and went on to receive a BA at Walla Walla College and an MA and PhD (ABD) at the University of Utah. He died July 15, 2003 at home in his own bed. Lee suffered the indignities of Parkinson's Disease with uncomplaining grace and patience for 22 years. Survived by his wife, Constance Flateboe Knudsen, and his only daughter, Marilee Knudsen. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to American Parkinson's Disease Association, Box 75169, Seattle, WA 98175-1069, or Swedish Hospice, 5701 6th Ave. S. #405, Seattle 98108.
