Phyllis Kirk

Grew up in Yankton, S. D., Graduated from Yankton High School in 1948, attended Yankton College 1948-50, University of South Dakota 1951. Married John Kirk in Yankton on August 21, 1951 and moved to Seattle. Two sons: Charlie and Jim, five grandchildren: Kelly Jean, Robin, Christopher, John Hazard, Peter, daughters-in-law, Sally and Louise. Worked at Boeing as Draftsman from Dec. 51-Oct. 54. Hired at Applied Physics Laboratory, UW in Oct. 54. Administrative Assistant to a Laboratory Director. Retired in 1966 to work as a lobbyist for Washington Roadside Council to the State Legislature seeking billboard control legislation. Lobbied for highway safety measures, and conservation. Active 17 years in King County South League of Women Voters. Served as Voter Service Chairman, served on the Board of the Puget Sound LWV. A Member Third Order of St. Francis and numerous conservation groups. Ran Kirk's Kitty Haven providing homes for cats given up by retirees who couldn't keep their pets. Volunteered in St. Thomas Church, Tukwila. Served on Parish Council, twice as President, and had been very active in many roles at St. Thomas. Often said "I don't think I really knew what happiness was until I gave my life back to God by working for his people. The members of St. Thomas congregation were my extended family and very dear to me".
