Randall Thompson Obituary

Randall (Randy) L. Thompson

1959 - 2012

Randy Thompson was born in Denver, Colorado to parents Bob and Nell Thompson. He died peacefully at home this week after a battle with cancer. He is the oldest of 4 siblings. He grew up in the Lake City neighborhood of Seattle and attended Watson Groen Christian School (now Shoreline Christian) through high school. He went on to graduate from the University of Washington with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.

For the majority of his life, Randy made it a practice to ask and look for God's involvement and guidance in his life. He always credited God with providing the perfect career and job as an Engineer, and ultimately an Engineering Supervisor for System Planning, with the City of Bellevue Utilities Department. He continued in this career for the next 28 years.

Randy was well-known as a friendly and approachable person with a seemingly constant smile, even while enduring the effects of the cancer and its treatment. He placed a great deal of value on the people who were a part of his life, whether it be a relatively brief encounter, a co-worker or friend. He was a beloved husband, son, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Randy had an unquenchable love of the outdoors and would spend as much time as possible enjoying outdoor activities. His favorite activities to the end were downhill skiing, hiking, backpacking and a little mountain climbing. Randy found time in the wilderness alone with God extremely rewarding. He was a true northwesterner, never allowing rain to change his plans.

Randy is survived by his wife Deborah, his parents, Bob and Nell Thompson, brother Mike Thompson, sisters Michelle Davenport (and her husband Tim), and Julie Thompson, and nieces Sarah and Kayla.

A celebration of Randy's life will be held on Saturday, September 8th at 1:00 pm at LakeSamm Church, 14434 NE 8th Street, Bellevue, WA 98007. In lieu of flowers, Randy asked that memorials be directed to LakeSamm Foursquare Church or to the non-profit organization "Water for People."

I worked with Randy for the majority of those 28 years at Bellevue. He was always thoughtful and fair, funny and fun-loving, patient and forgiving. A little dare-devilish in his early days too. (sky diving and river rafting) I miss him very much. My deepest sympathy goes to Deborah and his family.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Randy's passing. While I haven't been in contact with him for many years, he is remembered as a classmate of my own kids at Watson Groen. May the Lord provide comfort and assurance to the family, including his parents, Bob and Nell.
