Solveig Berg Obituary
Solveig Berg died September 12, 2017 after living a full life to the age of 94. She was raised in a large family in Volda, Norway. She arrived in New York City on the ship, Stavangerfjord in 1946, with her friend Tor Berg and his mother, for what was meant to be a short visit in Seattle to see her father and do some post-WWII clothes shopping. Later, Tor left Minnesota to visit Solveig in Seattle, which led to their marriage of 63 years. They were involved in the Norwegian community throughout their lives.
She had a passion to paint in both watercolors and oils. She was also creative in knitting and sewing, and enjoyed gardening, her cats, and dinners with friends. She was active in the Norse Home Guild and worked for photography studios as a retoucher.
She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Graves, Lita Breiwick (Gary) and Heidi Berg (Peter); grandchildren, Jennifer Artes Graves (Joaquin), Natalie Reisinger (Dan), Nicole Kristin Lowry, and Jake Lowry; and two great-grandchildren, Nicolas Artes and Clara Artes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tor in 2011; son-in-law, Gary Graves in 2016; and relatives and friends in Norway and Seattle.
A gathering will be held Sept. 20, 5pm at the Norse Home in Seattle.
Memorials may be made to Nordic Heritage Museum, Seattle.

Tante Solveig was one of our favorite aunts. We had heard about her and received letters and birthday-/christmas gifts since we were borne. We, her nieces and nephews, met her and our uncle and cousins for the first time in 1963. Solveig was even nicer than we had imagined!
It is sad that she has passed away, but she had lived a long and interesting life. We will miss her and aiways remember her with love! From Brit (niece) and Sveinung.
