Hard to believe it's been five yrs and years before that since we last spoke, having we were longtime friends at one time. Was happy to hear before leaving you were married (which you never even told me about) and crushed to hear she passed soon after. It was crushing to have to find out through someone that you had passed and was shown the obit. All I can say at this point is that I thanks for the friendship in the earlier years when we all hung out and for support for some of those times I was down and out. As I move on, I wish you peace still after all you went through.

I still think about you a lot. I regret not getting a chance to catch up, and not going to the 2015 reunion to see you, even though you asked. I'll see you again someday.

It’s been 15 years since I have seen Steve. And every once in a while I would think of him and hope and pray he was happy. Tonight he popped into my head and after googling his name, I saw his obituary. I am heart broken to hear of his passing. He had a heart of gold, was so kind and had a smile that I can still see in my mind. I can still hear his voice. I regret that we hadn’t spoken. I will always cherish our couple of years we had. I have so many photos of us. Our last fun memory was Mexico. I will smile even bigger looking at those photos. Much move to his mom and family. Xoxo

God bless you Dear Steve, I am honored to have had you as my son-in-law. You were so good to Jenn and for Jenn, your care and kindness made her world. I still carry the paper she gave me with your name and number when she had to go to the hospital, I carry it with me everyday. Rest in peace.

Big brother, I will miss you forever. I was so proud of you and I always looked forward to our time together. I was so proud to be your sister. It's hard not to be angry, but I know that's not what you would want me to focus on. I promise as I go through life I will take you with me until we are reunited again. It gives me some peace knowing you are together again with Jen and your father.

One of our fondest memories of our 12 years as neighbors was when Steve texted me from work about a displaced baby bird he saw by his back door, asking if we could maybe try to help it. For him to show such tenderness and concern for that little bird (who recovered well and was later released) really showed our family his heart of gold. We will miss you. Sending hugs, soft thoughts of kindness, and many prayers from our family to everyone hurting by your unexpected departure.

Although we are not close, there was one occasion when Officer Schrum touched my heart and gave me an everlasting impression of him as a genuinely kind person. One day, he was working OT and we had a chat about the dent on my car and Officer Schrum offered to fix it without monetary dues. Upon learning of his untimely demise, it made me cry and I prayed to God for the eternal repose of his soul. Officer Schrum will surely be missed.

We hadn't spoken in years, but I will always remember the good times and laughter in the neighborhood and with our friends. And all the times at the malls, going up to Vancouver, and dinners on Wed.nights with Christopher and everyone. Not to mention the times when we were kids at St. Catherines.

May you be at peace wherever you are. I will always remember you.

C/O Schrum wasn't just a correctional Officer, he was one of the few who took the time to be a voice of reason and sanity within the walls where he chose to work!
On more than one occasion he spoke with me on various topics, including freedom and things to look forward to beyond the confines I had spent so many years in. He confided in me his love for his wife and family and gave me hope for my future in hearing what life is like outside, NEVER overstepping the boundaries between him and I!
There are many reasons I've become successful in life after my incarceration but Steve Schrum and his words of wisdom surely have a part in that. Thank you and my heart felt condolences go out to your family!!! Thanks for all you were!!!!
