Thomas Snyder Obituary

Thomas J. Snyder

Thomas J. Snyder; known to all as Tom, passed away unexpectedly on August 1, 2016. Tom was born at UW Hospital on June 2, 1965 and was a life-long resident of Seattle and Kirkland. He attended View Ridge elementary; and the Gifted Program at Decatur, Eckstein Middle School, Roosevelt High and the UW.

Maryanne says her little brother was just a happy guy; cheerful, inquisitive and smart; always in motion. He loved camping and skiing and sledding and snowball fights and water skiing and surfing and SCUBA and swimming and soccer and cycling and motorcycling and go-karting and photography. He liked to take things apart to figure out how they worked.

Determined to be self-sufficient, he worked as an intern at Microsoft while earning his Computer Science degree at the UW. He graduated in 1987 and stayed with Microsoft; focusing on C-Compilers, Windows Help, Publisher and Internet Explorer. After 12 years he "retired" and had the freedom to pursue his dreams. An inveterate entrepreneur and distinguished computer programmer, he was the founder of Utilis Inc., ShowMyPhotos, ForwardCenter, iNetOffice, LinuxVerify, and more.

His biggest joy and unparalleled accomplishment was being Dad to his daughter Ilianne, and son Maximilian. He traveled the world with them and was always there to provide support for whatever their interests were at the time, from sports to Anime to VR. He also leaves behind sisters Maryanne, Shelly, and Alison; mother Colleen Clayton, step-dad Richard Hearsey, father Patrick J Snyder, step-mom Racine, former wife Anne Feige, and numerus extended family members.

For 25 years Tom was a mentor and volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. He co-founded Thursday Night Out in the early 1990s; one of the first web-based social groups.

Tom had an abundance of friends simply because of his spirit, his sense of humor, brilliance, and warmhearted serene self. He was an adventurous soul with a passion for being out on the lake, preferably water skiing. His contagious smile will be missed by all! Rest in peace.

Donations to the American Diabetic Association, the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI) and Big Brothers and Sisters are suggested.

A gathering to remember Tom is planned later this month.

Tommy! I remember coming to visit you and you family in the 70s so vividly! You could have been so annoyed by two little girls under 5 years year old hanging on to your every move. But you embraced us in every single way! And you, Maryanne, and Shelly always made us feel so loved. I will miss you all forever, and I am comforted knowing you now are no one of our angels.

Love always,
Leilani <3

Tom is technically my first cousin one removed but I always thought of him as Tommy. He was a sweet little boy that grew into a smart, savvy man. I think it is safe to say that we're all proud of him, his accomplishments at Microsoft and beyond. He married a wonderful woman and has two beautiful children. So very sad that he is no longer with us. Sending you love; wishing you peace, Tommy.

Sweet little boy, wonderful young man, good friend. We shared our lives on social network so always felt in touch. Loved watching his children grow up, seeing their travels and adventures. We are saddened by his passing and will carry his memory in our hearts. Uncle Mike and Aunt Linda Snyder in AZ
