William Briggs Obituary

William Albert Briggs

Bill Briggs' life ended peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at his home in Kenmore, with his wife Marilyn at his side. He was 89.

Born in Tacoma on August 17, 1927, William Albert Briggs graduated from West Seattle High School and then the University of Washington in 1951 with a degree in Pharmacy. Bill met his bride to be at Hart's Pharmacy in Seattle and they were wed in 1952. Bill and Marilyn opened Briggs Pharmacy in 1955 where it was a community presence in the Wallingford neighborhood for over 45 years.

Bill Briggs lived to serve his community and his family. He was a dedicated member of the North Central Kiwanis for over 45 years. The North Central Kiwanis Memorial Fund fully supports a summer camp experience for special needs children with cerebral palsy, as well as other physical handicaps. This work was Bill's favorite charity and he and Marilyn worked throughout the years in support of this camp.

Bill is survived by the love of his life Marilyn, his wife of 63 years, their three children and their spouses, and their six grandchildren all of whom he held close to his heart. From his presence at countless music performances, dance recitals, fishing and sporting events, or in the kitchen cooking or baking bread, Bill was a constant presence in their lives, as they were in his.

A family memorial service will be held in early January.

Remembrances for Bill's life may be sent to: North Central Kiwanis Memorial Fund. PO Box 31033, Seattle WA 98103.

I just saw that Mr. Briggs passed on in 2016. I had prescriptions filled at his pharmacy from 1976 to 1998 when we moved to Snohomish. He was always so pleasant when I would come in to the store to pick up a prescription. A particular memory I have is when my son was a newborn in 1996; I had mastitis and needed an emergency prescription filled. My husband worked evenings and I was home, feeling quite ill with a new baby. Mr. Briggs personally delivered the medication to me that evening! I was so grateful and never forgot his going above and beyond for a customer.

I just saw that Mr. Briggs passed away two years ago. When I was 12 through 17, I worked at his pharmacy stocking shelves, etc. He was always very kind to me, and created a wonderful work environment in that neighborhood pharmacy. He was a wonderful man. R.I.P.

To the Briggs Family , My condolences to the entire family for their loss. I remember Mr.Briggs and the entire family fondly for their long dedication and hard work for Kiwanis Camp Casey for youth with disabilities. My favorite part of summer growing up. Mr. Briggs was good man. May he rest in piece.

I worked down the street for Buzz Towne at 105 NE 56th in the '80s, (next to the Mackenzies, the fellow with the Christmas tie that had little lights on it) and used to stop in to pick up prescriptions and/or candy. Bill was very friendly, the old school neighborhood pharmacist, it seemed like that was just how it was but now those days are lost and gone forever. I consider myself fortunate to actually have experienced them and I know everyone else in the neighborhood feels that way too. May he rest in peace.
