Dorothy Deane Edmonds Anthony

Dorothy Deane Edmonds Anthony, age 102, of Lincoln, Missouri passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the Lincoln Community Care Center. She was born on June 7, 1921 in Benton County near Lincoln, Missouri, the daughter of Julius Albert Burkhart and Pansy Puntney Burkhart.
On June 26, 1944 she was united in marriage to Harold Melvin Edmonds in Warrensburg, Missouri. unto this union two children were born; Darrell Lee Edmonds of Emporia, Kansas and Curtis Dee Edmonds who died in infancy. Harold preceded her in death on December 1, 2000.
On February 8, 2003 she was married to John J. Anthony at the First Baptist Church in Lincoln, Missouri. John preceded her in death on June 17, 2018.
Mrs. Edmonds Anthony graduated from Lincoln High School and went on to college at Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Missouri where she received a BS degree in Elementary Education. This started a great career in teaching. Dorothy taught at McFarland School south of Lincoln, Sunnyside School west of Lincoln, Balke Prairie east of Cole Camp, Missouri and lastly Lincoln School in Lincoln, Missouri. She touched the lives of many children in the Lincoln School system. Students looked forward to being in her class and also the adventurous class trip that was taken every year. Riding the train from Sedalia, Missouri to Warrensburg, Missouri was a wonderful memory that her former students treasure. Mrs.Edmonds Anthony taught school for 41 years. Thirty of these years were in Lincoln School.
Dorothy was a former member of the C.T.A., the M.S.T.A., and the N.E.A. She was a member of the Lincoln Community Nursing Home Guild. Dorothy was an avid card player. She was a member of "the Domestic Executives" bridge club and "the Spark Plugs" pinochle club. She and Harold enjoyed square dancing and bowling and later John joined in with square dancing and playing cards. She was a member of "the Grin 'N Squares" square dance club and a member of several bowling clubs. Dorothy was a correspondent for the Lincoln New Era and the Benton County Enterprise.
Dorothy was saved at the age of 17 at Clear Creek Baptist Church and baptized in Clear Creek. She taught Sunday School for several years at the Christian Church in Lincoln, Missouri. Later in life she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln where she served as Historian and enjoyed many of the activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Harold Edmonds, her second husband, John Anthony; infant son, Curtis Dee Edmonds; her sister, Sadie Stevens; nephew Lonnie Stevens, and niece, Patty Jo Mendola.
Others surviving are a son, Darrell Lee Edmonds of Emporia, Kansas and his wife Deborah; five grandchildren, Kimberly Edmonds of Seattle, Washington; Donald Edmonds of Manson, Washington; Janalee Edmonds of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Janalee's daughter, Alisha Hunter; Terry Edmonds of Lincoln, Missouri; and David Edmonds of Pima, Arizona; a stepson, Patrick Paxton (Wilma) of Webb City, Missouri; a stepdaughter, Raelene Fangman (Roger) of Blackwater, Missouri; and step grandchildren; niece, Christine Ozborn (Gary) of Atlanta, Georgia; niece, Judy Crick of Lake Ozark, Missouri; Dianne Stevens, spouse of deceased nephew Lonnie Stevens of Lincoln, Missouri; nephew, Mike Stevens of Windsor, Missouri and many other relatives, friends, and former students.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Thursday, February 29, 2024 at the Davis-Miller Funeral Home in Lincoln, Missouri. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 11:00 until 12:00 P.M. Burial will follow the funeral at the Laurel Oaks Cemetery in Windsor, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln School Lunch Program.
