John McCutchen Obituary

Sgt. John Matthew McCutchen, 34, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at his home.
He was born July 3, 1986, in Sedalia, a son of John Dean and Donna Sue (Green) McCutchen.
On April 19, 2010, in Germany, he married Kathrin Brandhofer, who survives of the home.
Matthew was a 2004 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School.
He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after 11 years of service. He graduated from Infantry school, Airborne school, Airborne Assault school and Sniper school. During his service in Iraq, he was a machine gunner, sniper, and with a stryker brigade. He served as a vehicle commander on a tour in Afghanistan. Sgt. McCutchen was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge.
He was a voracious reader from a young age and enjoyed history, which led him to a passion for genealogy. He enjoyed collecting military antiquities, hunting and fishing.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.
Family was important to Matthew. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and uncle. He was loyal, persevering, funny and very loving. He had a tough exterior, but was soft on the inside.
In addition to his wife, Kathrin, he is survived by four children, Hannah, Jacob, Clara and Adrian; his father, John Dean McCutchen; sister, Jill Wade (Kevin); two nephews, Maddox and Calder; uncles, Larry McCutchen (Susan), Bob McCutchen (Dee), Pat Green (Mary) and Jeff Green (Amy); aunt, Pam Bass; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Franz and Anita Brandhofer; and a brother-in-law, Tobias Brandhofer.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Sue McCutchen; paternal grandparents, Dale and Peggy McCutchen; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Karen Green; and a nephew, Simon.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rob Hughes officiating.
Visitation was 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2021 at the funeral home.
Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the family, in care of Heckart Funeral Home.
