Gerald Van Decker Obituary

GERALD "Jerry" HENRY VAN DECKER, 78, of Shelbyville, KY passed away suddenly on August 12, 2018. He was the son of Dorothy Van Houten and Henry Van Decker and the beloved father of Thomas Gerald Van Decker of Mahwah, NJ; Heather Anderson Heltz, of Valrico, FL; and Rebecca Belinda Glaser of Taylorsville, KY. He is also survived by two granddaughters of whom he was extremely proud and loved greatly; Grace Anderson of Valrico, FL and Anastasia Glaser of Taylorsville, KY.

His loving sister and beloved brother-in-law, Judy and Irving Keeter predeceased him. Their three daughters; Jackie Keeter Armeli, Michelle Keeter Arvanitis and Sherri Keeter Mitroulas and their families meant the world to him.

President of Trademark Office Products, he was a well known and respected leader in the Northern New Jersey business community for over sixty years. He loved this country and was a true patriot who had served proudly in the Army.

During his retirement he became a cook and pie maker who frequently won blue ribbons at the county fair. He enjoyed travel and took extensive international trips with his friends. Despite his early animosity towards cats, in his later wiser years he became a feline fanatic.

He is mourned by all who knew him. He knew Jesus and will be welcomed home.

Family will receive friends on Saturday August 18, 2018 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home 113 South Farview Avenue, Paramus, NJ. Graveside Service and interment will follow at 1:30 pm at the George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Family and friends are invited to share a repast and celebration of his life following the service.
